The revised environmental permit for sections 2 and 3 of the Sibiu-Pitești motorway may be issued in December, following a new timetable to speed up procedures, Transport Minister Ștefan-Ovidiu Popa announced on Wednesday.
Writing on his Facebook page, the minister said the permitting process had faced delays over the past six months, which prevented contractors from working at full capacity on both construction sites. He added that once the revised environmental permit is issued, authorities will take the necessary steps to release the building permit.
The Sibiu-Pitești motorway is a key project linking central Romania with the south of the country. Sections 2 and 3 are currently under construction, and the December deadline is seen as an important step towards keeping the overall project on track.
No further details were given about the specific reasons for the earlier delays, but the announcement suggests a clear effort to move the approval process forward before the end of the year.
