More than 36,000 university students in Romania will receive social scholarships worth 925 lei during the current academic year. The support is being delivered through a project run by the Executive Unit for Financing Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research, according to a report from local media citing Agerpres.

The scholarships are available to full-time students aged between 18 and 29 who are enrolled in bachelor's or master's degree programmes at selected state civilian universities. To qualify, students must be studying on a budget-funded place, as announced by the Ministry.

Universities are responsible for selecting the recipients. Eligible students need to submit a social scholarship application along with the required documents, following the specific announcements published by their own institution. The exact deadlines and procedures may vary from one university to another.

The scheme forms part of the project "Interventions for tertiary education – systemic measures to prevent and reduce university dropout" (SMIS code 322473). It is co-financed by the European Social Fund+ through the Education and Employment Programme 2021–2027, together with the national budget.

The initiative is designed to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds continue their studies by easing financial pressures. Similar support was available in previous academic years, and this year's rollout continues the effort to reduce dropout rates in higher education across Romania.
