A significant fire broke out on Monday morning at an event salon on Calea Piscului in Sector 4 of Bucharest, with firefighters working to bring the flames under control.
The Bucharest-Ilfov Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISUBIF) said the blaze had already spread across the venue by the time the first crews arrived, and there was a possibility of it extending further. The fire is affecting multiple adjoining event halls, according to the inspectorate.
Emergency services have sent a large response: 12 fire engines equipped with water and foam, two aerial ladder platforms, one heavy rescue vehicle, the Special Rescue Detachment, and two SMURD medical crews. The aerial platforms allow firefighters to attack the flames from above, while the heavy rescue vehicle stands ready if structural work is needed.
As of now, no casualties have been reported. "We do not have any information about victims at this moment. The mission is ongoing," ISUBIF stated.
The incident is centred on Calea Piscului, a road in the southern part of the capital. Residents and drivers in the area are advised to avoid the scene and allow emergency vehicles through. Local media have shared images showing thick smoke rising from the building.
Firefighters continue to work to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring structures. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and officials have not released an estimate of the damage.
Event salons in Bucharest are commonly used for weddings, baptisms and private parties, though it is not clear whether any event was scheduled at the time of the fire.
This is a developing story. We will update as more details become available from official sources.
